The ultimate goal of behavior instruction for students at Spectrum Academy is to help the students develop the skills necessary to engage in learning and social opportunities. Whether this is academic, social, or self-regulation skills, we focus on helping them gain the ability to function successfully across a variety of settings.
We believe that behavior management is the critical foundation of an effective educational setting for all students. To help our students establish this foundation, we maintain school-wide behavior expectations that our staff teach and reinforce throughout the school day.
Behavior Support Systems
We provide various supports and interventions as part of our positive behavior support system. Systems such as our PRIDE/PACK rules, Level-up system, and Principals Club help teach proper behaviors in various contexts.
Spectrum’s Level-Up program is a school-wide positive behavior support system developed by school staff to address the needs of students across all ability and developmental levels. Level-Up has proven successful in promoting positive student behavior in accordance with classroom expectations.
Behavior Interventions
Behavior Specialists provide supportive interventions for the purpose of effective positive behavioral change. They utilize evidence-based techniques to conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and develop Behavior Intervention Plans.
In a school, behavior specialists use a variety of behavior analytic techniques to promote safe and productive participation in an educational program. Spectrum Academy’s Behavior Team includes Behavior Specialists and Behavior Assistants.
At Spectrum Academy, our Behavior Specialists play a critical role.
- They collaborate with teachers and classroom staff to provide strong behavior supports within the student’s natural environment.
- They provide individual and small-group instruction to teach new skills that will help our students succeed now and in the future.
- They provide direct behavior support, when needed, in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
